POST 2: BEST HOLIDAYS/CONVERT EVER
In today's blog, you've got two choices, you can either talk about your best holidays (or some holidays that you really enjoyed), or your best concert ever.
Personally, I don't go to concerts, as I don't enjoy crowds so I prefer enjoying music on my own in a comfortable context. In that case, I'll talk about one of best holidays I remember (mostly for the unique experience).
Back in summer 2010, my mother and me went to Russia and Estonia for a whole month (it was winter there). It was a special trip for me as it allowed me to meet the place where I was born and lived the first years of my life, and also get to know new places, landscapes, cultures, and some of the people who knew me in my early childhood. The whole trip could be divided in four different parts: Moscow, St. Petersburg (Leningrad), Sillamäe and Tallin (and Helsinki -capital city of Finland- for a single day). These are four different cities, two very famous ones from Russia and two smaller and maybe less recognized ones from Estonia.
St. Petersburg
We did plenty of things together. We went to different museums (the Hermitage museum in St. Petesburg among others), walked around the city, ate out, etc.
Moscow is just huge, a massive city with millions of people moving around every day. And it feels different than other cities, it feels Russian (as redundant as that may sound). There is a nationalist feel to it, a unique culture (both young and old). While St. Petersburg is completely different, more European, less nationalist and more open to the west.
Sillamäe, on the other hand, is a small town located in the northern part of Estonia, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland. It has a population of about 14 thousand people (yes, quite small). I think it is beautiful (specially in winter, as when I was there). It is the town where I lived my first years of life. Most of the population are Russians and only the younger generations speak Estonian. It hasn't got many things to do around, but it as nice place to relax and enjoy the surrounding woods and the waters of the gulf.
Although at some points it was a bit frustrating, as my level of Russian was and still is quite basic, and I couldn't communicate properly with other people, overall it was a good experience.
I think these have been one of my best holidays as it was an unique experience where I got to meet my family on my mother's side, and some of her old friends.
